Alicia Witt Joins Free Enterprise 2

A sequel toFree Enterpriseis finally happening, and over the past couple week’s we’ve been hearing rumblings on the casting front. If you haven’t yet watchedRobert Meyer Burnett’s 1998 indie film, it can be easily described asSwingersfor sci-fi geeks. It was about two aspiring LA filmmakers/Trek geeks who meet their screen idol,William Shatner(played by himself), who turns out to be nothing like the person they had imagined. The film has gone on to become something of a cult classic among geeks, and I highly recommend you check it out.

Last week we reported thatWilliam Shatnerhasconfirmedthat he would be returning for the sequel, with plans to begin shooting later in July.Isaiah Mustafa, the guy who appears in the Old Spice commercials, revealedthat he also has a role in the upcoming project while appearing on G4. And last week wenoticedsome tweets from actressesEliza DushkuandAlicia Witttalking about a twelve year old movie only a few people have seen. Could they also be involved in the upcoming sequel?

Alicia Witt tweeted “So has anyone seen the movie Free Enterprise? Just, y’know, totally random question”, a question which was almost immediate retweeted by Dushku. Suspicious, right? While we still don’t know if Dushku has been cast in the project,TrekMoviehas noticed that Alicia’s official website now lists “Free Enterprise 2 – Dir. Robert Meyer Burnett” as her next project. I think it’s fair to assume that Dusku is also involved, is in talks, or was offered a role in the sequel.

Witt made her acting debut at the age of nine playing little Aila in David Lynch’sDune. She has since gone on to star inFour Rooms, Mr. Holland’s Opus,  Cecil B. DeMented, Vanilla Sky, Two Weeks Notice, The Upside of Anger, 88 Minutesand most recently the television showFriday Night Lights.
