Carl Erik Rinsch No Longer Directing ‘Logan’s Run’
Much like the characters inLogan’s Run, it seems directors of the proposed remake have a limited shelf-life too. Commercial directorCarl Erik Rinschhadbeen attachedto directed a remake of the 1976 feature film but has now left the project, whichhe was developingto shoot in 3D,to concentrate on Universal’s47 Roninwith Keanu Reeves. This once again leaves Warner Brothers and producersJoel SilverandAkiva Goldsmanwithout someone to direct the script byAlex Garland. Directors such as Bryan Singer, Robert Schwentke andJoseph Kosinskihave all previously been attached to direct the remake. Read more after the jump.
HeatVisionbroke the news of Rinsch, who wasonce attachedto direct theAlienprequel too, leavingLogan’s Run. He’s been in heavy demand ever since his short filmThe Giftblew up andhis commercialshave gone viral in the past too. Apparently, he was developing bothLogan’s Runand47 Roninsimultaneously and it became obvious that a decision had to be made. That decision became clear whenUniversal set a release datefor47 Roninand began scouting locations. It’s a go picture whileLogan’s Runstill had a ways to go.
And now, it has a lot longer to go. According to the story, producers aren’t going to wait for Rinsch and are now free to move on to someone else. But it’s almost as if the project is cursed.People have been attachedto it for years but, for one reason or another, it just never gets off the ground.
For anyone who doesn’t know,Logan’s Runis about a futuristic society where you only live until the age of 30, at which point you’re killed. That is, of course, until one man runs away and finds out the truth about his existence. Looking at it now, the original film is super-duper cheesy, but the concept remains solid. This is one remake I’m actually anxious to get done.
Why do you thinkLogan’s Runkeeps running into all of these problems?
