First ‘Bourne 5’ Image And New Plot Details Revealed: Jason Bourne Is “In A Dark And Tortured Place”
America sure has spent a lot of moneytrying to saveMatt Damonover the years, but thankfully his next role, Jason Bourne, is a more self-reliant sort. He kind of has to be, considering our government (well, the CIA) has burned through a lot of money trying to kill him.
The as-yet-untitled fifthBournemovie picks up 12 years after we last saw him inThe Bourne Ultimatum, which was released in 2007 but set in 2004. (That putsBourne 5in 2016, if you’re trying to do the math in your head.) So what’s he been up to all this time? Damon drops a few more details, and serves up the first officialBourne 5image to go with them.
Bourne 5promises to be an exciting thrill ride, but the firstBourne 5still is about as boring as they come. It’s just a photo of Matt Damon frowning. He’s not evenshirtlessor anything. On the bright side, the marketing campaign can only get more interesting from here, right?
All teasing aside, Damon does have some intriguing details to share about the plot ofBourne 5. In an accompanying interview withEntertainment Weekly, Damon revealed that the amnesiac super-spy, who’s been off the grid since 2004, will resume his search for answers about his past. Not that the quest seems to be bringing him much joy: “We find him in a dark and tortured place,” said Damon.
Or maybe Bourne’s bummed out because his 2016 is a lot like our 2016, with all the bad stuff that entails. “There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties,” confirmed Damon. Maybe some big, expensive action will be just the thing to shake Bourne out of his funk.Among other things,Bourne 5will feature a “nighttime riot scene” in Athens in act one, and a “big car chase” on the Vegas strip in act three.
The film will reunite Damon withJulia Stiles, who played female lead Nicky Parsons in the three previous Bourne-centric adventures. (Like Damon, she sat out the fourth film, the Jeremy Renner-starrerThe Bourne Legacy.) New characters will includeAlicia Vikanderas a cyberspecialist,Tommy Lee Jonesas a tough CIA agent, andVincent Casselas a villain.The Bourne SupremacyandThe Bourne UltimatumdirectorPaul Greengrassreturns to the helm.
