‘Green Lantern’ Rumor: Chris Pine To Star As One Of Multiple Green Lanterns

One of the questions surrounding Warner Bros.' upcomingGreen Lanternmovie is which Green Lantern it’ll center on. There have been several of them in the comics, since they’re all part of a single intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. Would Warner Bros. attempt a do-over with Hal Jordan? Or might they move on to other popular Green Lanterns like John Stewart?

Well, now the rumor is that the Green Lantern movie won’t focus on any one of those — because it’ll follow multiple Green Lanterns. And thatChris Pine, who was recently reported as being in talks forWonder Woman, could play one of them. More on the Green Lantern rumors after the jump.

First, the usual caveats. These are rumors, not confirmed cast or story details. Moreover, the Green Lantern movie is still about five years out, so there’s time for things to change. So take this info with a grain of salt.

That said:Colliderhas heard the Green Lantern film will feature some combination of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. After that first solo outing, the franchise will continue to focus on the Green Lanterns as a group, rather than settling with one definitive lead. The site speculates that Warner Bros. could introduce the new Green Lanterns at this year’s Comic-Con panel.

The new Green Lantern or Lanterns are only confirmed to appear in 2020’sGreen Lanternstandalone movie, but he / they will almost certainly show up for the twoJustice Leaguemovies in 2017 and 2019 as well. It’s less likely that Green Lantern(s) will pop up in next year’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has already wrapped.

Meanwhile,Latino Reviewhas heard a slightly different variation of that rumor indicating only Hal Jordan and John Stewart (not Guy Gardner) will be part of the new DC Cinematic Universe. And they believe Chris Pine is closing in on the role of the former.

Pine was recently reported as beingin talksfor Wonder Woman love interest Steve Trevor. However,Latino Reviewsays that’s just Warner Bros. “Kahning us JJ Abrams style,” i.e., lying. Pine has been linked to the role on and off for years. He wasconsidered for the 2011 moviebefore Ryan Reynolds won the part. Now that it’s clear Reynolds won’t return, the rumors about Pine havefired up again.

As for John Stewart, that’s still very much up in the air.Tyrese Gibsonhas beenlobbying hardfor the role. AndCommon, who was actually set to play the character in a cancelledJustice Leagueproject, told press he’d"love"another shot at him. But Common is already part of the DC universe nowwithSuicide Squad, so of the two Tyrese seems more plausible.
