‘Jurassic World 2’ Photo Teaser: The Egg Comes Before The Dinosaur

Just like how you need to break a few eggs to make an omelet,Colin Trevorrowknows you need to smuggle out a few dinosaur eggs to make a sequel.

In a cryptic new photo fromJurassic World 2,Trevorrow — who yields the director’s chair this time around toA Monster Calls’J. A. Bayona— teases a picture of dinosaur eggs in an incubator waiting to hatch, in an eerie parallel to the classic scene in the lab from the originalJurassic Park.

On Easter Sunday, Trevorrow appropriately tweeted a photo of some eggs — though a different kind of Easter Egg than you would expect. The photo of seven eggs in an incubator fromJurassic World 2is one of the very few things we’ve seen from the upcoming sequel.

It’s a nice callback to one ofJurassic Park’s classic scenes, in which scientists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) watch in awe as a Velociraptor hatches from an egg whileB.D. Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu smugly explains the science, causing a skeptical Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) to utter his famous phrase, “Life … finds a way.”

While we have no plot details fromJurassic World 2, we can assume that the film will deal with the aftereffects of the park attack, and the issue of dinosaur rights after the park has closed down. The sequel to the mega-hitJurassic Worldalso has a few loose plot threads to tie up: the idea of weaponizing dinosaurs for covert combat introduced byVincent D’Onofrio’s Hoskins, and the dinosaur embryos and research for the dinosaurs that Dr. Henry Wu (the only cast member from the originalJurassic Parkto appear in the film) smuggled off the island with the help of members of InGen. While Hoskins didn’t make it to the end credits, the military’s plans to breed dinosaurs for combat surely won’t die with him.

But this picture is ostensibly a reference to Dr. Henry Wu, whose ever-lasting presence throughout all theJurassic Parkmovies prove that he’s not to be overlooked or underestimated. Has he set up an illegal shop with InGen to continue his dinosaur research or has he been recruited by a government agency to breed them for suspicious purposes? Military-bred dinosaurs would be a terrifying follow-up to the genetically-enhanced Big Bad ofJurassic World, the Indominus rex.

We also know that theoriginal T-Rexfrom the firstJurassic Parkis returning and that we are going to get to see the dilophosaurus for the first time since the first movie, thanks to some recently surfaced set photos.

TheJurassic World 2cast includesChris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Daniella Pineda James Cromwell, Geraldine ChaplinandTed Levineand is set for release onJune 22, 2018.
