Marvel Is Not Developing Falcon Or War-Machine Spin-Off Films
WhileMarvelmovies are usually about one big name hero, there’s a lot of joy in the supporting characters. Two of the most intriguing ones, at least in Phase 2, areDon Cheadle’s Colonel James Rhodes, aka War Machine/Iron Patriot, fromIron Man 3andAnthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. Each are formidable fighters in their own right; they just happen to play second fiddle to Iron Man and Captain America.
And that’s where they’ll remain for now. In a new interview, Marvel Studios PresidentKevin Feigesaid there are no current plans to develop spin-off films based on those characters.
The information came from an extensive interview Feige did withCollider. He was asked “Is anybody at Marvel currently developing or writing a possible Falcon or War Machine spinoff movie?” The answer? A simple “No.”
That’s not to say it can’t happen in the future, but, Marvel has much bigger fish to fry. They have some major money issues when it comes toThe Avengers 2(Tuesday’sDeadlinearticle is a must read) and a whole Phase 3 to develop featuring new characters likeAnt-ManandDoctor Strange.
And what about the members ofThe Avengerswho have not had their own movie yet? Black Widow plays a big role inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, but you’d imagine Scarlett Johansson would like her own movie. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk won’t be back untilAvengers 2,but a solo movie seems inevitable. Then there’s Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye who, as far as we’ve heard, might not be back untilAvengers 2either.
Though Cheadle and Mackie are fantastic actors, at this point in the Marvel universe they’ll continue to sit on the sidelines. Not to mention we haven’t even seenCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. Falcon might not make it out alive.
Where do you think the characters rank on the Marvel Cinematic Universe power chart?
