Sequel Bits: ‘Transformers 4’, ‘The Fifth Element’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Cloudy 2’

Luc Bessonwants to make anotherFifth Element, kind of. Also after the jump:

“As a fan, as a filmmaker, I am really… really… really excited,” he said. “She’s a great storyteller, and I’m sure this will be something really great. She wouldn’t do it otherwise — she doesn’t need to do it.”

Or rather, she does need to do it, but not in the sense that she needs more of that sweet franchise dough. “She’s doing it because sheneeds to do itbecauseshe has a story to tell,” he said. “It’s going to be very good. I assure you.” [Hypable]

Dreddis finally getting a sequel — but only in comic book form for now. Publisher Rebellion has announced a new story calledDredd: Underbelly, which “picks up where the critically acclaimed movie left off, with Judges Dredd and Anderson fighting the tsunami of crime on the mean streets of the dystopian Mega-City One.“Arthur Wyattwrote the book, whileHenry Flintprovided illustrations. The book will hit shelves in the U.K. onSeptember 18, and will be available digitally worldwide on the same day.

As it happens, that date also marks a “Day of Action” forDreddfans. “If everyone who’s signed the petition bought an extra DVD or Blu-ray (either for themselves or as a present for a friend) or rented/bought it on iTunes and Netflix, it will send the loudest signal yet that WE WANT MOREDREDD!” write the campaign organizers. Along similar lines,Terminator 5is a ways off still, but there’s a new comic book sequel coming to stores this winter. WriterJ. Michael Straczynskiand artistPete Woodshave teamed forTerminator Salvation: Final Battle, a yearlong series to be published by Dark Horse Comics. Here’s a plot description:

Hopping between the future and the past, this sweeping, 12-issue epic counts down the end of the Machine War — but not the one fans expect! Everything’s at stake, and the fates of Skynet and John Connor will be told!

Terminator Salvation: Final Battlewill be releasedDecember 4. [THR]

While directorLuc Bessonwon’t go so far as to say that he wants a direct sequel toThe Fifth Element, he will gladly admit that he wants to make a “connected” movie.

The Fifth Element I was a little bit frustrated because I made the film right before all the new effects arrived. So when I did the film it was all blue screen, six hours, dots on the wall, takes forever to do one shot. Now, basically, you put the camera on your shoulder and then you run and then you add a couple of dinosaurs and spaceships. And I was so frustrated because it was not so easy at the time. So I always think to myself that I would avenge one day and use all the new tools to do a sci-fi film for sure. […]

I don’t know if it would be directly connected but it would be the same area and the same genre. So for me it would be connected even if the stories had nothing to do with each other.

Okay, but good luck topping the gloriously insane Ruby Rhod. More advanced tech won’t help Besson there. [The Playlist]

Will Forte’s character Chester V makes his first appearance inCloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, and what an appearance it is. Jack ReynorandNicola Peltzwon’t be the only up-and-comers inTransformers: Age of Extinction. In a recent interview,Mark Wahlbergdiscussed his kids' cameo in the film.

For him to take the time to set up the specific shot that he actually really wants to put in the movie for my kids. I don’t like asking for those kinds of things. I was going to send him a text, but I just wanted to wait and thank him in person. I gave him a big hug yesterday.

The $300 million figure is probably incorrect, but we have no reason to doubt that Wahlberg’s kids did a great job. What he wouldn’t talk about, however, was the Dinobots. “I haven’t seen no Dinobot, so don’t put that on me,” he said. [MTV]

A Chinese teaser poster has dropped forTransformers: Age of Extinction, and it looks… exactly likethe American teaser poster. Aside from the fact that it’s in Chinese, I mean.

I can’t read the language, but I’m guessing it says things like “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and “coming in 2014.” If any of you’re able to understand Chinese, please help us out with a better translation in the comments. The next Transformers opensJune 27in the U.S. [MichaelBay.com]
