EA unleashed theStar Wars Galaxy of Heroesgame onYouTube.

So if every Star Wars movie, book, comic, and video game is supposed to be canon from here on out, how doesGalaxy of Heroesfit in? Simple:Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroesis presented as “hologames in a cantina far, far away.” In other words (asTHRpoints out) the game itself exists in the canon. Clever.

Galaxy of Heroesbrings together Star Wars characters and backdrops from all different parts of the franchise, including the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy,Star Wars: The Clone WarsandStar Wars Rebels. Locations include Hoth, Tatooine, Coruscant, and Bespin. We can probably expect future films likeThe Force AwakensandRogue Oneto be included down the line, too.

Players can build light and dark side teams, strategizing based on each character’s individual attacks and abilities, and enhance their powers with special gear. As the game goes on, you’ll be able to unlock special characters, skills, and moves (such as “Darth Sidious’s Force Lightning” and “Chewbacca’s Wookiee Rage”).

In their original statement announcingStar Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, EA explained the appeal of the game:

When we set out to make STAR WARS: GALAXY OF HEROES, we wanted to tap into the fantasy of collecting characters and starfighters and then let people enjoy the fun of playing with them creatively. We’re bringing this idea to life by allowing players to take part in battles with collections of their favorite heroes, characters, and ships from across the Star Wars™ universe.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroeswill be available on iOS and Android this holiday season, just in time for theStar Wars: The Force Awakensrelease onDecember 18.
