STX Entertainment has unveiled the latest trailer forThe Bye Bye Man, a supernatural horror-thriller that hasDoug Jones(Hellboy) playing a sinister force who’s been responsible for unthinkable evil. The problem is that avoiding his grasp is easier said than done. As the attractive young heroes/victims keep advising each other, “Don’t say it, don’t think it.” But of course, trying really hard to avoid thinking about something is a surefire way of making sure you keep thinking about it. The Bye Bye Man Trailer

Honestly, I’d forgotten until just now that this movie never actually came out. But hey, that’s what trailers are for. Originally, it was slated to open in June 2016, but at some point STX quietly kicked it down the road toJanuary 13, 2017. The first year of the month has a reputation as a dumping ground for terrible movies, but horror’s often done really well that time of year. The firstCloverfieldwas a January movie, as wasMama. MaybeThe Bye Bye Manwill follow in that same mold.

… Or, you know, maybe not. The concept behindThe Bye Bye Manisn’t a bad one — and the film’s got a great asset in Jones, who’s made a career out of otherworldly movement — but the trailers have been kind of middling. There’s not much here to distinguishThe Bye Bye Manfrom any of the dozens of other mediocre horror flicks that come out every year. Hopefully they’ve got a few more interesting tricks up their sleeve.

The Bye Bye Manis directed byStacy Titleand starsDouglas Smith,Carrie-Anne Moss, andFaye Dunaway.

From the producer of Oculus and The Strangers comes The Bye Bye Man, a chilling horror-thriller that exposes the evil behind the most unspeakable acts committed by man.
