It’s taken over 30 years, butTerrence Malick’sVoyage of Timeis finally heading to theaters. Several weeks ago we learned that IMAX had set the 40-minute edit of his documentary, narrated byBrad Pitt, for a fall release, and today the first trailer has arrived to show us what wonders wait in store for us. Check out the firstVoyage of Timetrailer below.
Voyage of Timehasn’t been aroundquiteas long as the cosmos itself, but it has been in the works for a long long time. Back in the 1970s Malick began work onQ, about the history of the universe and the beginning of life. That project eventually got scrapped, but Malick was able to repurpose some of that footage forTree of Lifeand nowVoyage of Time. The firstVoyage of Timetrailer is a stunner, and it also looks a little bit like someone just cut out all the narrative human stuff fromTree of Life.
Two different versions ofVoyage of Lifeexist: a 40-minute IMAX experience narrated by Pitt, and a 90-minute 35mm version narrated byCate Blanchett. The trailer above is for the shorter IMAX cut, in case you couldn’t tell by the fact that Pitt narrates the whole thing. That one lands in IMAX theatersOctober 7. The longer edit doesn’t have a theatrical release date yet.
