Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer featuresPatrick Warburtonas author and narrator Lemony Snicket, walking on the set and talking to the camera, much likeAlfred Hitchcock used to do in his trailers. We don’t get to see Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, although we hear him for a moment. Previous set photos have shown that he hasgone deep into make-up for the role, although I wonder why Netflix decided to keep him out of the initial teaser. While we don’t see Olaf, we do get a look at some of the show’s amazing sets which look good enough for a big budget big screen movie.

The streaming company has announced a truly unfortunate release date for this new series: Friday the 13th of January 2017. All eight episodes of the first season will be available at that time.

In the series, Harris plays Count Olaf, the “master” of disguise who attempts to steal the Baudelaire orphans' inheritance after their parents pass away in a mysterious accident. Olaf is the children’s distant cousin  (third or four times removed), but he certainly doesn’t treat the three children like family. The character and his theater troupe do all that they can throughout the series to hunt down the Baudelaire children.

The Netflix series also starsLouis Hynes(Klaus Baudelaire),Malina Weissman(Violet Baudelaire),Patrick Warburton(author and narrator Lemony Snicket),Aasif Mandvi(Uncle Monty), andK. Todd Freeman(the banker, Mr. Poe).

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) and starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents' mysterious death. The eight-episode series is a Netflix original production, executive produced by Emmy Award winner Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler, and premieres August 18, 2025 only on Netflix.

DirectorBarry Sonnenfeld(Men in Black) will establish the new tone and vision for Netflix’sA Series of Unfortunate Events. Sonnenfelddirectedthe pilot, and he’ll remain involved as an executive producer.
